Browsers
A browser is a piece of software that allows users to access and interact with the WWW (World Wide Web). Web browsers are very simple to use although they are becoming very complex with every new version that is launched. Most modern browsers have built in safety features to prevent unauthorized access to you computer. The most popular browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer, but Mozilla Firefox is rapidly being preferred by many users.

Web Authoring
This is the software that is used to actually piece together a website. For many simple sites it is just used as a page layout application would be to place elements into the right place. HTML is the most common language used or creating websites in web authoring software.

Internet Security
Software, which protects your computer from harmful infections and unauthorised access. Through everyday browsing you may pick up many viruses and Spyware, often without even realising. Internet security prevents this from happening. New viruses are created almost everyday so the software needs to be updated regularly.

Page Layout
This is used to create pages, anything from a formal essay to a flyer or poster. The term page layout refers to the layout of the page, which is the positioning of the various elements such as text or image. Popular page layout applications include Adobe PageMaker, Adobe Indesign and quark express. Adobe Photoshop can also be used as a page layout application but is not often preferred to the others.

Image Creation & Manipulation
These are used to create and manipulating pictures and images, as the name might suggest. Photo manipulation software ranges from a very basic program like Microsoft paint, to Adobe Photoshop which is the ultimate in its sector. It comes at a very high cost though. Adobe’s dominance is proved by the fact that most people now use the word Photoshop as a term to describe something that has been edited or manipulated.
